The Three Gorges Dam ship lift is the largest of its kind in the world. During this additional optional excursion, travelers will take a small sightseeing boat to go through the Dam via the lift.
The ship lift can lift a 3,000-tonnage vessel to a height equivalent to a 40-storey building within one hour. It used to take about three to four hours to traverse the Dam via the 5-stage ship locks.
Since 2018, almost all Yangtze River cruise ships don’t go through the Three Gorges Dam five-stage ship locks due to the limited capacity of the ship locks. In order to enhance the travelers cruising experience, travelers could choose this optional excursion to experience the ship lift.
